Meet the Authors

Dawn Michael and Kim Kinzie are childhood friends who set out to write a book together, and ended up with a grandiose dream.

Dawn O’Shea Michael

Dawn O’Shea Michael graduated from Boston University with a degree in English and Biology. Though she would have loved to sustain a living by pondering Shakespeare, Dawn opted for the more lucrative and noble choice – optometry.  After twenty years of asking the question, “Better one or two?” Dawn has decided to put her English degree to better use by writing a book.  In addition to managing her optometric practice, Dawn provides a taxi service for her three ADHD children, shuttling them to their various play dates, recitals, and doctor’s appointments. She spends the remainder of her free time battling with her husband that golf isn’t the only means of exercise.  Not one for change, Dawn currently resides in her native state of Rhode Island.

Kim Fogarty Kinzie

Kim Fogarty Kinzie is a recovering attorney turned stay-at-home mom. After getting her BA at Bentley University, she headed to Law School.  Having watched endless episodes of Law and Order, she decided to pursue a career as a prosecutor, hoping she’d have the opportunity to fight crime and work with cops who looked like Chris Noth.   Though the latter part of that fantasy didn’t pan out, she did dedicate her career to criminal law for the next eleven plus years.   During that time she wrote the infamous Massachusetts Prosecutors’ Manual: Operating Under the Influence. While not a NY Times bestseller, it did gain some cache in the local legal community.  The process also helped Kim discover her true passion:  writing.  Since then she has dabbled in creative writing and has recently become a regular contributor for Rhode Island’s Motif Magazine, where she writes profiles of local restaurants, festivals and kid-friendly activities.  She now has her own column, Alternative Parenting, where she provides her unique perspective on child rearing.   After years spent living in Boston and San Diego, she now resides in her home state of Rhode Island with her husband and their two boys.
